Is the Tapping method / Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) based on science?

"During Tapping, you re-balance the amygdala. Find the evidence here!"

Keidi and I are both supporters and practitioners of EFT, and it has been a life-changing practice for us and our clients in the process of transformation.

You may have noticed that in my articles or posts about specific Gates or Themes in the Human Code, I often end with a specific sentence called the “core affirmation” used in EFT.

Today, I want you to understand EFT more deeply, so that you can use that affirmation with awareness.

Many times, I’ve been asked whether there is any scientific basis or research that proves if this method truly impacts our brain and body.

Because some people are not familiar with the research conducted over the past 10 years, they tend to label this applied healing technique as ungrounded or meaningless.

    Where did Tapping come from?

Tapping was first introduced over 30 years ago by Dr. Roger Callahan, through a modality he called Thought Field Therapy.

Gary Craig, a Stanford-trained engineer with a deep interest in healing and self-improvement, modified the technique to make it more user-friendly and accessible. He named his version Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

Nick and Jessica Ortner followed this simple model and became catalysts for turning the technique into the most widely used in the world, teaching it to millions of people through their films and the EFT Tapping World Summit.

    What is Tapping?

Tapping is a powerful healing technique that involves rhythmic tapping on various meridian points of the body.

These are the same points that are stimulated during acupuncture and acupressure treatments.

When you experience a stressful, frightening, or traumatic event, your body releases cortisol - a stress hormone. The release of cortisol imprints a memory of that event (either consciously or unconsciously) in the body, which disrupts its natural energy flow and functioning.

This imbalance can lead to chronic or acute illness, various physical accidents, physical or emotional pain, or specific psychological beliefs. These beliefs or thoughts may manifest as negative relationships, financial problems, or low self-esteem.

During Tapping, you rebalance the amygdala - the brain’s integrative center that controls your emotions, motivation, and actions - and create a new configuration and energy flow in the body—now in a safe, calm, and balanced state of mind.

    Show me the facts!

I’m excited to see modern science supporting what Eastern medicine has known and practiced for 5,000 years.

Here are just a few examples of studies that have proven the effectiveness of EFT:

Studies from Harvard Medical School discovered that Tapping can significantly reduce - or even drastically lower - stress in the amygdala, the brain’s center responsible for emotional responses.

Dr. Dawson Church, one of the world’s leading experts in energy psychology, conducted a study in which participants’ cortisol levels were measured after one hour of Tapping.

The results showed a 24%–50% reduction in cortisol levels - compared to the control group, which did not practice tapping and experienced an almost insignificant decrease!

A study published in the journal Energy Psychology confirmed that the benefits of EFT come from the Tapping process itself, and not from a placebo effect (created by “mind manipulation”).

"The use of acupoints combined with the vocalization of self-affirming statements appears to be an active component in EFT, rather than a placebo effect. The results were consistent with other published reports demonstrating the effectiveness of EFT in treating psychological issues in students."

Countless testimonials from individuals, like this story from Serina Deen, a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry, who experienced a powerful tapping session that turned her into a committed advocate of the method. According to her, “It’s non-invasive, works quickly, can be self-administered, and I personally felt the benefits right away.”

One of the most recent success stories involving the U.S. was featured on the Today TV Show.

Now, I am integrating this method with Human Design analysis.

After identifying your specific individual challenges in your design code, we use the power of EFT to release them.
